Iain Ferguson has been Chief Executive of Tate & Lyle PLC since May 2003. Previously he spent 26 years at Unilever in a range of roles with extensive global responsibilities.
Mr Ferguson is also a member of the UK Government’s Council of Food Policy Advisers, a member of the Institute of Grocer Distribution’s Policy Issues Council, Honorary Vice President of the British Nutrition Foundation and a non-executive director of Greggs plc. He has also served on a number of public/governmental bodies.
Mr Ferguson’s new role combines responsibility for chairing Wilton Park’s Departmental Board and its Advisory Council, the latter in succession to Farhan Nizami, who will continue as a member of the Council under the new arrangements. As chairman of both the board and the council, Mr Ferguson will be responsible for ensuring that Wilton Park sets and achieves agreed targets, as well as responding to the views of its distinguished Advisory Council. The FCO is also currently in the process of recruiting a new Chief Executive for Wilton Park, in succession to Donald Lamont, who will step down from the role in September.
In accepting the job, Iain Ferguson said:

Wilton Park is an academically independent and non-profit making Executive Agency of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office. It was established in 1946 to help restore peace and democracy in Europe as part of an initiative inspired by Winston Churchill. It became an Executive Agency on 1 September 1991.
Wilton Park organises around 50 conferences a year, some of which are held overseas, with high-level participants from around the world. At the start of 2009, Wilton Park had 50 full-time and 26 part-time staff and an overall operating budget of approximately £4m.
