The FCO funds regular visits to the Muslim world by prominent British Muslims.
The aim of Projecting British Islam is to provide a platform for British Muslims to challenge misconceptions overseas about the reality of life for Muslims in Britain – by showcasing the integral role Muslims play in British society.
This undermines a key part of the extremist narrative overseas that the UK and the West is engaged in a War with Islam.
The programme strengthens partnerships between British Muslims and communities overseas leading to grassroots follow-up initiatives.

We’ve sponsored over 25 delegations since 2005 involving more than 70 delegates.
The visits have led to number of outcomes including widespread media coverage overseas of the positive role British Muslims play in UK society and the development of stronger networks between British Muslims and communities overseas to counter extremism.
We plan to extend the programme over the next three years with a focus on supporting follow-up work by delegates in the UK and with like-minded opinion-formers overseas.

There have been 6 visits by British Muslims in 2008 to Afghanistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Libya and Egypt.
