Champions League final - advice for travelling fans
We’ll be updating our advice for the Champions League final in Moscow regularly in the run-up to the event. You can also read our general travel advice for Russia and subscribe for alerts when it is updated.
Please note that there are currently no hotel vacancies in Moscow for the 21 May. If you require accommodation you should book it before travelling and not rely on being able to find a room on arrival.
For general travel tips, see our travel checklist.
Your club's website and the offical UEFA site will also have more information about travel and ticketing.
Passports, visas and migration cards
Check the validity of your passport before you travel – you’ll need at least 6 months left on your passport to get into Russia.
For details of visa requirements you should continue to check the websites of the Russian National Tourist Board and the Russian Embassy in the UK.
The Russian Tourist Board's visa hotline number is: 0208 242 4104
You’ll have to complete a migration card on arrival. One half you should hand over to the immigration officer, the other half you must retain with your passport. You’ll need to give this to the immigration officer when you leave Russia - if you lose it you may have problems leaving the country.
If you’re staying for longer than three days your hotel should register your visa and passport with the authorities when you check in. You’ll also need to present your migration card.
Drinking in Moscow
Don’t let alcohol ruin your Champions League final experience:
- be vigilant when you’re drinking alcohol - pickpockets may operate in some bars.
- don’t smoke or drink in Red Square. It’s illegal and you will be arrested!
- don’t leave drinks unattended in bars as they may be spiked - be very aware of strangers offering to buy you drinks
- don’t turn up at the stadium inebriated -security will be tight and you’ll be refused entry
It should also go without saying that you should not do drugs during your visit. The Russian authorities have a zero tolerance attitude towards drugs, both hard and soft. Penalties are severe and can result in long-term jail sentences
Transport in Moscow
The Ministry of Transport have agreed to extend the operating hours for the Metro and bus services during the early hours of 22 May to enable travellers to leave the city. The Metro will run until 4:00am (and re-start at 5:30 am) and buses will run until 5:00 am ( and re-start at 6:00 am). There will also be 700 taxis available after the game.
Moving around Moscow:
- carry your passport at all times. You may be stopped in the street by the police and asked to produce it as ID - a copy is not sufficient
- keep a separate copy of your passport and other important documents in case you lose the originals
- be aware of pickpockets on the metro and in tourist areas like Red Square
- don’t commit acts of theft: the local authorities will lock you up rather than deport or fine you
- Moscow police cannot impose “on the spot” fines. If a policeman tries to fine you for a supposed infringement insist on calling the Embassy.
What our embassy can do:
You should make a note of the embassy’s phone number (on the right) and carry it with you in case you need it.
See the Our embassies and other posts section for a list of things the embassy can help with.
If you’re detained or arrested in Moscow, insist on contacting the embassy on 956 7298 (from within Moscow or 007 495 956 7298 if calling from a UK mobile).
This number is available 24 hours a day. We’ll do what we can to help but if you have broken the law we cannot arrange for you to be released from detention. Nor can we pay fines.
And we can’t provide you with money in any circumstances, but we can help you transfer it from home.
