Travel advice for this country
General
Insurance
We recommend that you obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling, covering medical evacuation. You should check any exclusions, and that your policy covers you for all the activities you want to undertake. For more information see

Registration
You should register with the British High Commission Consular Section in Lilongwe on line at
UK in Malawi if you intend to stay in Malawi for more than a few days. If you have any queries you can email
LilongweConsular/Passport@fco.gov.uk.
Register with our
LOCATE service to tell us when and where you are travelling abroad or where you live abroad so our consular and crisis staff can provide better assistance to you in an emergency.

Money
Credit cards are not widely accepted in Malawi. Travellers cheques' or cash are advised as means of exchange. Money can be changed at the airport, banks or commercial bureaux de change. Holders of UK visa cards are able to withdraw funds from ATMs but there are very few machines, even in tourist locations.
