Insurance
We recommend that you obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling. You should check any exclusions, and that your policy covers you for all the activities you want to undertake. For more general information see

Registration
Register with our
LOCATE service to tell us when and where you are travelling abroad or where you live abroad so our consular and crisis staff can provide better assistance to you in an emergency.

In the event of a genuine consular emergency in The Bahamas, please telephone (00) (1) (242) 357 9005. This number should not be used for passport or visa queries.
Money
The Bahamas police have recently notified the public that counterfeit higher denomination notes are in circulation. You should check for a ship watermark and metallic strip on genuine notes and not purchase any currency except at established exchange centres.
