There is a low threat from terrorism. But you should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks which could be in public areas, including those frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers.

You should be aware that petty theft, especially in Tallinn Old Town, is becoming increasingly common. See the Crime section of this advice for more details.

Around 56,000 British nationals visit Estonia every year (Source: Estonian Tourist Board). Most visits are trouble-free. 14 British nationals required consular assistance in Estonia in the period 01 April 2008 – 31 March 2009 for the following types of incident; deaths (4 cases); hospitalisations (6 cases); and arrests, for a variety of offences (4 cases). During this period assistance was also requested with regard to lost or stolen passports (16 cases). If you need to contact the emergency services in Estonia call 112.
