We advise against all travel to Nagorno-Karabakh and the military occupied area surrounding it.
Azerbaijan faces a general threat from terrorism. Attacks could be indiscriminate and against civilian targets and places frequented by foreigners.
Nine British nationals required consular assistance in Azerbaijan in the period 01 April 2008 – 31 March 2009 for the following types of incident; deaths (2 cases); hospitalisations (0 cases); and arrests, for a variety of offences (5 cases). During this period assistance was also requested with regard to lost or stolen passports (8 cases). Crime against foreigners is generally low, but does occur.
