INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
Sudan is a member of the Arab League, the African Union, the Organisation of Islamic Countries, and was a pioneer member of the Non-Aligned Movement. It plays an active role in all of these organisations. Sudan also has an ongoing dialogue with the EU. The EU/Sudan dialogue deals with five areas: peace, relations with neighbours, terrorism, democratisation and human rights.

Principal recent visits to Sudan include:
- The UK Special Representative for Sudan attended the political negotiations between the Government of Sudan and Darfur rebel movements, which began in Sirte on 27 October
- The UK Special Representative for Sudan attended the political process talks with Darfur rebel movements in Arusha on 3-6 August 2007
- FCO Minister for Africa visited Sudan on 10-12 September 2007
- Secretary of State for International Development visited Sudan on 18-19 July 2007
- The UK Special Representative for Sudan met AU, UN and regional representatives to discuss how to take forward the political process (Tripoli, 15-16 July 2007)
- Secretary of State for International Development addressed the 16 November UN high level meeting in Addis Ababa and the 30 November AU Peace and Security Council summit in Abuja on the issue of Darfur
- Foreign Secretary addressed the Darfur peace talks in Abuja Nigeria (February 2006) and the UN General Assembly (September 2006)
