UK Treaties Online

The UK Treaties Online (UKTO) service enables you to access details of over 14,000 treaties involving the UK. Our treaty records are based on information received by the FCO Treaty Section over many years. You will be able to research the existence of treaties, obtain key information about them (such as place, place of signature and entry into force date) and see which States or organizations participate in them.

Treaty texts

  • UK Treaties Online contains links to the texts of Command Papers published in the Treaty Series from 1892 to 1998 inclusive. Please allow 5 - 10 seconds for PDF files to open.
  • Although the database contains records of treaties published up to the present day, the texts of treaties published as Command Papers since 1999 are currently accessible only on the Treaty Command Paper and EMs page. We hope to extend access to Treaty Series Command Papers from 1999 to date on the database in the future.

How to get the most from your research

We recommend that you take a little time to read our UKTO guidance notes which provides an explanation of the database, along with information on common treaty acronyms. Features of the database search screen are explained in this step-by-step guide and some examples of how to search for treaty records are given in the search tips. Our guidance will also soon be available as an audio guide.
