Statement: 8 October 1971 (Communicated to all States recognised by the UK), HMG 'recalled their view that if a regime is not recognised as the Government of a State, neither signature nor the deposit of any instrument by it, nor notification of any of those acts will bring about recognition of that regime by any other State'.

Objection: 2 May 1979 – UK does not regard as valid the reservation made by Iraq in respect of paragraph 1(b) of Article 1 of the said Convention.
Objection: 12 Nov. 1979 – to Guatemala's rejection of the UK's extension of the above to Belize.
Objection: 28 Feb. 1985 – to Argentina's Declaration of 3 October 1983 (re. the Falkland Islands).
