The Energy Bill is designed to provide for a step change in the provision of energy efficiency measures to homes and businesses. It is the responsibility of the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC).
The Bill will make improvements to our framework to enable and secure low carbon energy supplies, and to promote fair competition in the energy markets.
This is a first step in the Coalition government's legislative programme on energy security. Further legislation will be sought later in the Parliament to implement other initiatives.
The FCO is responsible for one clause in the Bill. This clause will make a technical amendment to the Continental Shelf Act 1964 to enable better management of resources, including hydrocarbon resources. More details are explained in the Summary to the Impact Assessment:
