They discussed a range of issues, including Kenya’s preparations for elections, commercial opportunities, and recent local clashes.

Commenting after the meeting, the Foreign Secretary said:

“We look forward to Paralympics success and to building on our traditions of strong sporting achievement. I offered my condolences for the tragic loss of life following the clashes that occurred in Kenya’s Coast Province last week and expressed my concern about the riots in Mombasa over the weekend. I urged the Vice President to continue to work with all parties to address the root causes of these disputes. We also discussed Kenya’s preparations for the elections and I emphasised the UK’s commitment to support the Kenyan authorities to deliver free, fair and peaceful elections, including by ensuring important institutions like the judiciary are supported to perform their role. Vice President Musyoka and I also agreed that we must continue to work in partnership to promote the conditions necessary to increase investment and promote growth in Kenya.”
