UK and New Zealand: a warm and very strong relationship

Foreign Secretary William Hague welcomed New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully to the Foreign Office today.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Speaking after the meeting the Foreign Secretary said:

“It was a pleasure to welcome Murray to the Foreign Office this morning. The UK and New Zealand enjoy a warm and very strong relationship, built on shared values, as well as historical and cultural ties. At our meeting today we discussed areas of international interest, with a specific focus on the alarming situations in Syria and Iran. We also spoke of our shared interests in the Pacific including a number of positive recent developments in Fiji. Our discussion also touched on UK and New Zealand interests in Asia. I am also pleased that we spoke of opportunities for British companies in New Zealand.”
