Foreign Office Minister hosts young Olympic Truce Ambassadors from Colombia

Foreign Office Minister Jeremy Browne hosted young Colombian athletes visiting the UK as part of an initiative to support young people from one of Colombia's most violent regions.

The athletes have overcome significant challenges as they strive to become Olympians of the future.

The Foreign Office Minister said:

“I am delighted that these eight Colombian role models have been able to travel to the London 2012 Olympic Games, thanks to the strong partnership between the Colombian and British Governments.

These young athletes embody the ideals of the Olympic Truce through their desire to promote sport as a force for inclusion and as a way to improve lives. I am sure they will use their experiences here to share those values with others on their return to Colombia.

I am pleased that we are supporting this work which will provide a legacy for young people both in Buenaventura and across Colombia. It is precisely the kind of inspiring project that brings life to our ever closer relationship with Colombia.”
