1948 Olympics gold medal winner visits the UK
Harrison Dillard visited the Foreign Office today, 64 years after he won gold medals at the London Olympic Games in 1948.
The oldest living 100m gold medal winner held up the 1948 torch which is on display at the Foreign Office during the Games.
He met Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt who described him as a real inspiration:
“It was an honour to meet Mr Dillard today and to welcome him to London, 64 years after he won gold medals for the 100m sprint and 4x100m relay at our 1948 Olympics. He has led a fascinating life and we discussed some of his amazing achievements. As the only athlete to hold gold medals for both 100m sprint and 110m hurdles, Mr Dillard is a real inspiration and a living legend.”
