FCO Minister reiterates UK’s position on Gibraltar to Chief Minister Fabian Picardo

The Minister for Europe David Lidington spoke to the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo this afternoon.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

They discussed a range of issues including the current fishing dispute, recent incidents in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters and the potential impact on Gibraltar of changes to online gambling taxation. During the course of the discussion Mr Lidington reiterated that the UK’s position on sovereignty has not changed and will not change. The UK will never enter into arrangements under which the people of Gibraltar would pass under the sovereignty of another State against their wishes. Furthermore, the UK will not enter into a process of sovereignty negotiations with which Gibraltar is not content.
