Foreign Secretary welcomes adoption of Security Council Presidential Statement on Syria

Foreign Secretary William Hague said that he strongly welcomed the UN Security Council's support for Kofi Annan's work as joint UN-Arab League envoy.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Speaking today he said:

“I strongly welcome the Security Council’s full and unanimous support for the work of Kofi Annan as joint UN-Arab League envoy, expressed in today’s Presidential statement. Kofi Annan has set out a plan on behalf of the Arab League and the United Nations to end the violence, secure humanitarian access, and facilitate a Syrian-led political transition. I urge the Syrian authorities to take this chance to stop the bloodshed and show their commitment to implementing Kofi Annan’s six point plan, including by immediately pulling back the military from in and around population centres.”
