Foreign Secretary welcomes leading role by Morocco at the UN on Syria

Foreign Secretary William Hague discussed Morocco's contribution to discussions on Syria when he met Moroccan Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs Youssef Amrani.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Speaking after the meting the Foreign Secretary said:

“Mr Amrani and I discussed Morocco’s contribution to discussions on Syria. I welcomed the leading role Morocco has played in the United Nations Security Council. Our close co-operation will continue to be important throughout negotiations on the draft resolution to endorse in its entirety the Arab League plan for resolving the crisis in Syria.

I also expressed my support for Morocco as it deepens its already strong relationship with the European Union. The UK is a firm advocate of free trade and we believe that the proposed EU-Morocco Agriculture Agreement will bring significant economic gains for both parties. It is important that the EU recognises reform in partner countries, including through offering meaningful market access and closer economic integration.”
