Minister for Latin America visits Bolivia

Foreign Office Minister Jeremy Browne will visit Bolivia on 26 and 27 July to further strengthen the relationship between the UK and Bolivia.

The UK Foreign Secretary confirmed in a speech at Canning House in November 2010 that the UK government wants to re-engage with Latin America, both in terms of political cooperation and trade and investment. The Minister of State for Latin America, Jeremy Browne, will carry out an official visit to Bolivia on 26 and 27 July to further strengthen the relationship between the UK and Bolivia. His visit will focus on human rights, security, prosperity and our shared efforts to tackle the scourge of drug trafficking.

Foreign Office Minister Jeremy Browne will mark one year to go until the start of the London 2012 Olympics on 27 July. The Minister will attend a British Embassy event at the High Altitude Training Centre at Lake Titicaca.

During his visit to Bolivia the Minister will meet with Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca.

He will visit the forensics drugs laboratory established with British cooperation in 2009. He will meet police authorities, community policing officers and local residents at Community Policing module in the city of El Alto to discuss the British Community Policing model introduced with the support of the British Embassy in Bolivia in 2005.

Foreign Office Minister Jeremy Browne will also visit an emergency camp set up in coordination with EU NGOs in response to the recent landslide in La Paz.

He will meet previous Bolivian beneficiaries of UK scholarships and attend a concert given by the Arakaendar choir, led by British conductor Ashley Solomon.

This is the Foreign Office Minister’s first visit to Bolivia
