Mexico: "A vital economic and political partner"
Foreign Secretary William Hague discussed UK-Mexico trade & climate change with Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa on 30 June.
Speaking after the meeting the Foreign Secretary said:
“It was a great pleasure to host the Mexican Minister of Foreign Affairs, Patricia Espinosa, for lunch at Carlton Gardens today. This Government is working hard to strengthen our links with Latin America, an area which Britain has neglected for far too long. Mexico is a vital economic and political partner for us within this region, and our co-operation is increasingly broad.
Our discussion reflected this: covering expansion of bilateral trade and investment, Mexico’s plans for their Presidency of the G20 next year, the current situation in Libya and Syria, and ongoing climate change negotiations. Both Britain and Mexico are fully committed to a legally binding climate change deal, and we are exploring ways in which we can work together to achieve this.
Jeremy Browne, the Minister for Latin America, will take forward these discussions when he visits Mexico in the autumn for the latest round of our regular High Level Political Talks.”
