Foreign Office Minister meets Google executives to discuss internet freedom
On UN International Human Rights Day, Jeremy Browne visited Google’s offices for a round-table discussion on freedom of expression on the internet.
During the visit, the Minister spoke with Google’s Head of Strategy for Europe, Middle East & Africa Scott Rubin and Director of Communications for Northern & Central Europe Peter Barron, along with Susan Morgan, Executive Director of the Global Network Initiative (GNI), and Emily Butselaar, Online Editor of the Index on Censorship. They discussed a range of issues, including internet freedom, the need to uphold international standards on freedom of expression on the internet and the role of companies. The Minister also watched a presentation to learn about tools Google is using to help manage freedom of expression issues.
