Minister for Europe welcomes peaceful conduct of parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan

Minister for Europe David Lidington has spoken following Kyrgyzstan's parliamentary elections.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Speaking after the elections, the Minister for Europe said:

“I welcome the peaceful conduct of the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan on 10 October, and the positive initial assessment of observers from the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions & Human Rights, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the European Parliament. It is important that politicians keep pursuing the political process to build democratic institutions in Kyrgyzstan. This represents the best chance to ensure peace, institutional stability, open dialogue, rule of law and democracy for all the citizens of Kyrgyzstan.”
