Deputy Prime Minister on Kenya

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has made a statement congratulating Kenya on the promulgation of a new Constitution.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The Deputy Prime Minister said:

“On behalf of the British people and government, I warmly congratulate Kenya on the promulgation of a new Constitution. This is a significant milestone and a proud time for Kenyans. It is also a memorable achievement for Kenya’s Coalition Government. I commend the leadership shown by President Kibaki and Prime Minister Odinga, but also the many other Kenyans who have contributed over the years towards this historic moment.

I welcome the renewed sense of confidence this Constitution offers for the country’s future. Alongside progress on other reforms set out in the National Accord, implementation in the spirit of its founding principles will help Kenya achieve its Vision 2030 of becoming a more prosperous, secure and dynamic country, and a flourishing regional hub. As a long standing friend and partner, the UK is committed to supporting the reforms that will bring that reality closer.”
