Lord Howell meets Zimbabwean Deputy Prime Minister

FCO Minister discusses reform and the economy with Professor Arthur Mutambara, Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister of State Lord Howell today met Professor Arthur Mutambara, Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, to discuss the Inclusive Government and its progress in driving the necessary reform for free and fair elections. The Ministers agreed on the importance of the ongoing constitutional review, and of political, media and security sector reform.

The Deputy Prime Minister is currently in London to lead a conference on infrastructure development in Zimbabwe. Lord Howell stressed that the private sector has a key role to play in helping to revive Zimbabwe’s economy and agreed that respect for the rule of law will attract investors.

Speaking after the meeting, Lord Howell commented: “The Deputy Prime Minster and I had a constructive discussion this afternoon on reform and economic development. This follows on from my discussions earlier this week with Zimbabwe’s Education, Sports and Culture Minister, David Coltart.”
