The statement follows his trip to the two countries earlier this week, during which he met Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and Afghan President Hamid Karzai for discussions on combating terrorism in the border region between the two countries. He said:
'We cannot sit by and allow this centre or epicentre of terrorism to continue to exist without taking further action.
That’s why we are publishing on Wednesday our strategy for dealing with those border areas in Afghanistan and in Pakistan.
That’s why we want to strengthen the Afghan forces, police and army, and that’s why also we want co-operation with the Pakistan authorities to deal with terrorists and terrorist threats in their area.'
