One year to go until the London Olympics and Paralympic Games

London 2012 will explode into action in the Olympic Park in Stratford, east London, on 27 July next year.

The event focused on uniting diverse members of the community in sport. Sri Lankan cricket legend Muttiah Muralitharan added an element of stardust to the event, attending the closing ceremony and posing for photographs with participants. Speaking at the end of the day, British High Commissioner, John Rankin, said, "We've all enjoyed each other's company, shared laughs and discovered the joy of teamwork today.

On Wednesday we've initiated the final part of the preparation process for the London 2012 Olympics. The 1 Year to Go marked the 366 days until the Opening Ceremony. Yes, that is correct - 366 days to go. This is because next year will be a leap year, so we'll have one more day in our calendars.

With only 365 days to go the excitement in the UK and around the world is growing by the day. The buildings that aren't yet finished are well on their way and the preparations for the opening ceremony have begun.
