The UK is committed to fighting racial discrimination and intolerance. Combating all forms of racism remains an important part of the Government’s human rights policy.
We continue to develop policies, strategies and legislation to address these issues, both in the UK and globally.
In 2001 the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action [PDF document, opens in a new window] was agreed at the World Conference Against Racism. The 2001 conference was aimed at furthering the global fight against racism. However, it was marred by anti-Semitic remarks, as was the April 2009 UN Durban Review Conference.
More information on the Durban Review can be found in the racism section of the Human Rights and Democracy: the 2010 FCO Report and in the Annual Report on Human Rights 2009.
