Westminster Foundation for Democracy

The Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) was established by the FCO in 1992 to allow the FCO to support democratic political party development overseas and parliamentary strengthening without direct involvement. 

It is a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB) and as such is independent of Government and operates at arms length from the FCO. WFD agrees its corporate plan and strategy with the FCO to ensure it complements our overall objectives and priorities.

WFD is funded primarily through an annual Grant-in-Aid from the FCO. WFD have successfully bid for alternative FCO funding as well as funding from other Government Departments.
