FCO Human Rights and Democracy Programme 2012-13

Human rights, democracy and the rule of law are at the heart of HMG’s foreign policy.This programme will support projects focussing on priority issues and countries where we believe the UK is best placed to effect transformational change. 

The target thematic areas for the programme are:  

• promotion and protection of freedom of expression
• strengthening electoral processes
• upholding freedom of religion and belief
• global torture prevention
• combating discrimination against women
• abolition of the death penalty
• supporting the UN Principles on business and human rights
• support for human rights initiatives in the Commonwealth

The programme will initially focus on priority countries listed at Annex A in the call for bids.
