Commercial diplomacy

Creating growth and prosperity for the UK is at the heart of our foreign policy. Supporting UK business and attracting investors to the UK is a core activity for the Diplomatic Service working on behalf of the whole of Government, with the diplomatic network in over 170 countries helping to bring opportunities home to the UK.

Britain's commercial diplomacy is an integral part of foreign policy based on our economic interests and values. Our Embassies and High Commissions overseas actively champion the UK as an excellent place to invest and do business, work to open markets, ensure access to resources and promote sustainable global growth.

A charter for Business

A Charter for Business The FCO's Business Charter, launched in May 2011, outlines the support the FCO will provide to British businesses, helping them to identify and pursue new opportunities overseas, manage risks and build relationships with the right foreign decision-makers.

The Charter was launched alongside the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) 5-year strategy, and is part of a cross-Government effort to rebalance the UK economy through an ambitious framework for trade and investment. You can read more about the UKTI Strategy on the UKTI website, and trade policy and the Growth Review on the BIS website.

You can find contacts for UKTI teams based overseas on the relevant Embassy or High Commission website and more information on support available to UK businesses and overseas companies looking to do business in the UK on the UKTI website.
