The Museum’s mission is to enable people to understand how societies and individuals create and respond to war and conflict. We aim to be relevant and inspirational for our audiences. We seek someone with substantial experience of working in an international arena. You will be a strategic thinker who understands public sector values, the principles of corporate governance, and an empathy for the purpose and values of the Museum.
Generally London, but occasionally at other IWM branches.
The position is not salaried but reasonable expenses will be paid.
Members of the Board have corporate responsibility for the general management and control of the Museum, subject to the terms set out in the Imperial War Museum Acts (1920 and 1955), subsequent amending legislation and other governing documents. It is their responsibility also to ensure that the Museum complies with any statutory or administrative requirements for the use of public funds.

Trustees are expected to allocate sufficient time to the role and to attend four meetings per year. Some additional time will be required to study papers, attend events and other representational engagements.
The appointment will be for a four year term.
