The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is looking for 30 experienced Rule of Law professionals (police, customs, justice and legal experts) to second to the EU's mission in Kosovo. The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) is the largest civilian mission ever launched under the European Security and Defence Policy. Its mandate is to assist and support the Kosovo authorities in the rule of law area through mentoring, monitoring and advising. This is an exciting opportunity to play a part in a high profile mission and to help deliver UK and European foreign policy objectives in the Balkans.
We are looking for experienced practitioners with a broad range of expertise who are able to put their skills to use creatively to contribute to the development of Kosovo's rule of law institutions. Some roles will include executive powers. Customs officers, judges and senior legal experts are particularly encouraged to apply.

Here are some notes on completing the Application Form:
EU Application forms are not as comprehensive as many CVs. Applicants should make good use of the box that asks them to say why they would like to join the mission; it is their opportunity to sell themselves. Only application forms will be forwarded to the EU so ensure you include all the relevant information in the form.
Please tick the box at the beginning of the application form marked "Seconded Status" and not "Contracted Status".

Some background on the FCOs secondment package are as follows:
Length of Secondment:
Initially for 1 year.
Salaries and Allowances:
EU member states determine and pay salaries for their respective secondees. There are no pension rights associated with these secondments. The EU will pay a per diem to national secondees to cover the cost of accommodation, food, etc.
Training and Briefing:
The FCO will facilitate pre-deployment training and briefings.
Insurance:
The EU will provide high risk insurance for emergency medical treatment, medical evacuation and limited cover whilst personnel are on duty. The FCO provides additional cover, details of which are provided prior to the successful candidate(s) being deployed.
Leave:
Leave allocation is decided by the EU.
Travel Costs:
The FCO will pay for travel costs for attending pre-deployment training. At the start and end of the secondment, the FCO will pay for an economy air ticket from the UK to Kosovo. Secondees will be entitled to one paid economy class return flight back to the UK for each 6 months spent in mission.
