Glenys Kinnock

Glenys Kinnock, Minister of State

Glenys Kinnock joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office as Minister of State in June 2009, when she became a member of the House of Lords.

Glenys served as a Member of the European Parliament between 1994 and 2009. She was a member of the European Parliament Development and Co-operation Committee from 1994 to 2009 and co-President of the ACP (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) - EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly from 2002 to 2009. Glenys also acted as spokesperson on International Development in the European Parliament.

Glenys founded and is President of One World Action, the Development NGO. She is a Board Member of the European Council on Foreign Relations, a Patron of the Burma Campaign and a Council Member of Voluntary Service Overseas.

 

Glenys is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. She is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Wales College Newport, the University of Wales Bangor and holds Honorary Doctorates from Thames Valley University, Brunel University and Kingston University.  She has also written widely on international issues, in particular on Africa.

Born in 1944, Glenys was educated at Holyhead Comprehensive School and graduated from the University of Wales College Cardiff in education and history. She has been a teacher in secondary, primary, infant and nursery schools. Glenys married Neil Kinnock, now Lord Kinnock of Bedwellty, in 1967 and they have two children and four grandchildren.
