How our directorates are structured

The Permanent Under-Secretary (PUS) has overall responsibility for managing the FCO’s resources and for policy advice given to ministers. This work is shared between the eight members of the FCO Board.

Each has an area of responsibility with the exception of the Chief Executive, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), and the Chief Information Officer. UKTI is a joint department and the Information Directorate is part of Central Group, which is the responsibility of the PUS.

The work is sub-divided into Directorates each headed by a Director:

Permanent Under-Secretary: Simon Fraser

The PUS is head of the Diplomatic Service. He is responsible for advising the Foreign Secretary and the Ministerial team on foreign policy, and for managing the FCO. He chairs the FCO Board.
