Avoiding delays
To help us process your document as quickly as possible, please check the following before bringing your document to the public counter or posting your application to us:
To avoid delays on the public counter, please ensure:
- All documents meet the requirements listed in the Documents we can legalise section.
- The document has not been pp'd.
- All documents signed by a practising solicitor or Notary public have a personal signature and not a company signature.
To avoid delays for postal applications, please ensure:
- All documents meet the requirements listed in the Applications by post section.
- A cover letter is included with details of the documents you wish to have legalised with your name, address, telephone number, email address and fax number if you have one. Please be aware we cannot phone international numbers.
- A self-addressed envelope is included.
- A payment is included by the following methods: company cheque (please note that we cannot accept personal cheques), postal order, international money order or banker’s draft which is made payable to 'Foreign and Commonwealth Office' and the payment is in Sterling.
