Our telephone enquiry service provides information on legalisation and the legalisation process only. This information can be found on this website. However, if you would prefer to speak to a Legalisation Office operator, you can call 03700 00 22 44 (national rate charges will apply) between the hours of 12:00 to 16:00 Monday to Friday.

IMPORTANT: Please do not call this number if you have already sent your application to the Legalisation Office as operators will not be able to respond to your query. Please email us at LegalisationEnquiries@fco.gov.uk if you have any comments on our service or have a specific complaint, please see our details for feedback.

Please e-mail us at LegalisationEnquiries@fco.gov.uk if you have already submitted your application to us by post and:

  • Your documents have not been returned within the published processing timeframes
  • You have a payment query
  • You have any other question relating to an application you have already submitted to us.
Before e-mailing us:

If you have submitted an application and are enquiring about a delay, please check your e-mail inbox and junk mail before sending an enquiry.  If your application is non-straightforward we will send an e-mail to the e-mail address provided on the application form to inform you of any delays.

In your e-mail you must include the following information:
  • The name in which the application was made
  • Your full address, including post code
  • The full delivery address, including post code (if different from your address)
  • How your documents were sent (e.g. Special delivery, first class post, commercial courier, etc)
  • Tracking number (if applicable)
  • List of documents that you have included with your application
  • The date you sent your application
  • The method by which you paid

If you are experiencing technical problems with our online payment facility, please e-mail us at EpaymentEnquiries@fco.gov.uk. If your payments are being declined please contact your bank or card issuer.

FedEx UK Shipments

For UK shipments, the FedEx Claims Department can be contacted between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday on 01782 602003 or by e-mail at ukclaimsrefreq@fedex.com (please see attached form for FCO & consignees only)

FedEx international shipments

For international shipments, the FedEx Claims Department can be contacted by calling customer services on 01782 576177 who will then process the claim through to International Claims 08456 070809
