Economic Sandwich Students Placement Scheme
Every year, we offer 3 positions on our 1-year placements as part of our commitment to valuing economic work.
Placements are within our Global Economy Group or Europe Directorate, and will give students an exciting opportunity to work on current international economic issues. The opportunity to do a familiarisation visit to an overseas embassy is also a possibility.
What will I be doing?
Students will be involved in a range of activities from writing economic reports on selected topics or countries and providing research support for economists on a wide range of cross cutting issues, to maintaining and editing an economics website.
When do placements take place?
Placements start in the summer (June/July) and last for 12 months. Start dates are negotiated once successful.
Will I get paid?
All successful candidates will be paid £16,914 (equivalent to FCO pay-band A2) plus London Location Allowance of £3,000.
What are the eligibility criteria?
To be eligible you must be:
- an undergraduate between your second and third year of study.
- on a degree course with a substantial economic element (ie at least half of your course must be economics based)
- comfortable working on economic issues.
- well motivated, have good communication skills and be comfortable working independently.
- a British Citizen and have been resident in the UK for at least 2 of the previous 10 years, at least 1 year of which must have been a consecutive 12-month period.
Security clearance
To enable the appropriate security checks to be carried out, you must have resided for at least 3 consecutive years in 1 country.
