Meg Munn

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State

Meg Munn was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in July 2007.

Meg Munn MP, MinisterBorn in 1959 in Sheffield, she attended York and Nottingham Universities, and later studied with the Open University.

Meg joined the Labour Party when she was 15 years old, becoming a City Councillor in Nottingham from 1987–91. She also joined the Co-operative Party and is a Labour and Co-operative Member of Parliament.

She trained as social worker taking up posts in Berkshire, Nottinghamshire, Barnsley, Wakefield and York, eventually becoming Assistant Director for Children's Services at York City Council.

Elected MP for Sheffield Heeley in June 2001, she was appointed Minister for Women and Equality in May 2005, first at the former Department for Trade and Industry, then in May 2006 at the Department for Communities and Local Government.

She speaks fluent French and German and conversational Italian and Spanish. A member of the Methodist Church, she is married to Dennis.
