HEALTH
Health facilities on Nauru are very limited, and there is little in the way of statistics on the Millennium Development Goals indicators. Life expectancy at birth (males 55, females 62) is low for a country which until recently enjoyed one of the highest levels of GDP per capita. Non-communicable diseases, reflecting the lifestyle and diet, such as diabetes, are believed to be the major cause of death. Nauruans are amongst the heaviest smokers in the world (10th on the list of male smokers, 1st on the list of women).
