Speaking to a packed assembly, the Minister for Africa explained how the current financial crisis 'touches on every aspect of every families life across the world'.
He also stressed the need to keep up our commitment to achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals during this financial downturn.
The Minister for Africa explained how the London Summit needed to represent the whole of Africa and how the continents agenda at the Summit needed to be 'simple and straight forward yet bold and ambitious'.
He argued that during the economic downturn Africa needed to improve regional trade and start relying more on its own resources and to also ensure that aid levels to African countries do not suffer.
Lord Malloch-Brown was the first British Minister to address the African Union Summit Plenary.
